Spring Hotel Vulcano review
This hotel has gone through many changes over the years and is not cheap to stay at. An average room costs around £150/180€ per night, although two adults can share. With that in mind, you would expect high-quality service. The latest changes are:
- Free taxi service suspended (it is now a shuttle bus, for those who stay 7 nights or more and book direct with the hotel, south airport only.)
- No buffet service at dinner and no half-board option (those who have already booked half-board will have this honoured, although there is no longer a buffet.)
Meal plans, Balance and UP access
The hotel used to be very good value with the half-board option, as the only meal you would need to purchase is lunch. The “Balance” and “UP” remain available for those who have this as part of their room rate, effectively providing a full-board and almost all-inclusive service. Whilst the UP experience is lovely, you need to consume alcohol to make it value for money. Meanwhile, the “Balance” area does provide free soft drinks and lager, which is useful. Subject to availability, you can purchase day passes for Balance and UP! However, there is sometimes a minimum purchase of 3 days.
Amenities
Other amenities at the hotel, provided free of charge, include
- Swimming pool with lots of lounge areas and a pool bar
- Fitness classes and some other activities
- Evening entertainment
- Gym
Food
The buffet breakfast remains of high quality. For those who do not have it included in the room rate, you can add it for 20€.
Rooms
Rooms are spacious (I recommend rooms 111-118 or 211-218, even numbers only.) These rooms have a pool view, are slightly larger than others. Additionally, they are close to the elevators or stairs whilst being away from the main reception area.
Other facilities include:
- Free WiFi although speeds vary
- Daily room cleaning
- Towels and pool towels provided
- Safe provided (10€ deposit)
- Free bathrobe and slippers (pool-view room or higher only)
- Phone (useful for calling reception or other rooms)
- TV with international channels
- All rooms have balconies
- USB charging points in all rooms
- Free water and hot drinks on your first day
- Fridge in room
- Welcome drink upon arrival
- 24-hour reception
- Laundry service (extra cost)
The lobby area is well-maintained and beautiful to sit in. If you arrive before 3pm and your room is not ready, you can store your luggage free of charge. Alternatively, relax with your welcome drink.
Location
The location is great; both Los Cristianos and Las Americas are within walking distance. A bus stop is also across the road, as well as a small strip of shops and restaurants. Taxis are normally in the vicinity, and there is a beach just 5 minutes walk away. However, you can easily walk to Playa de las Vistas and if you continue walking, you will arrive at the town of Los Cristianos.
Overall, I would recommend booking if you can get a good bed and breakfast rate and eating out for other meals. The cost of living in Tenerife is still relatively low, and some local restaurants offer a great-priced set menu or buffet. Furthermore, there are all types of cuisines available including traditional British, Asian or American.
Final thoughts
The transfer service is useful if you are staying 7 nights or longer. Regarding the pool view and UP rooms, you would need to calculate if you would consume enough to make it worthwhile.
