Looking for a stay in the heart of Lisbon? Look no further – Hotel da Baixa has it all. Being close to many city centre attractions, a town square, market, museums and more.

The welcome

Upon arrival at Hotel da Baixa, you can relax with complimentary soft drinks and snacks available all day. Should you choose not to have towels and sheets changed in your room, you can also enjoy free drinks from your minibar. All your needs are catered for here.

Rooms

The room is equipped with an umbrella, laptop safe, desk, electric blinds you can operate from the bed, fast WiFi, charging points, air conditioning, a reading light, twice-daily housekeeping, in-room phone, and large luxurious bathroom. In addition, some of the complimentary toiletries are of a very high standard too. You will feel refreshed after using the rainforest shower. There is also plenty of storage space for your luggage, and 2 elevators to make use of.

The hotel

Likewise, the staff at Hotel da Baixa work hard to keep guests choosing to stay in the hotel entertained. There is a free walking tour, available most mornings, as well as some evening entertainment. The hotel’s restaurant, Sebastiao, offers dinner that is slightly more expensive than eating out. However, the food and service are of a very high quality. The breakfast is also here and provided free of charge, with sparkling wine, pastries, hot food, unlimited coffee, breads, cereals and more.

Why you shouldn’t book

The only downsides were that being a fairly small building, there is no gym, sauna or spa facility. However, I am sure that there would be local facilities close-by. Rooms can be pricey, so I recommend booking in advance, either by using hotels.com (see my review here) or ZenHotels. Both offer free cancellation options.

Travel plans

In terms of transfers to the airport, the hotel does offer this service, but it is considerably more expensive than taking a taxi or using a transfer service. Contact me to book your transfer today, should you need to. A tram and metro stop were both within walking distance of the hotel, and plenty of taxis hover in the square close-by. Lisbon’s airport is connected to a metro station.

For flights, easyJet and TAP Air Portugal are your best bet, as both airlines have a base at Lisbon airport. They offer regular flights to London and major European cities. Food/drink is available to purchase on-board at a reasonable price.

Climate

Lisbon has fairly mild winters and hot summers. I visited in September, and daytime temperatures were around 30c or 85f. If you want year-round warmth, I recommend Madeira, just a short flight from Lisbon!
