The Canary Islands have always held a special place in my heart, and my latest visit reaffirmed why. I started in Tenerife, the largest island, where the dramatic landscape of Teide National Park took my breath away. Ascending Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak, provided panoramic views that stretched across the Atlantic. The unique volcanic terrain felt otherworldly, with craters and lava flows painting a picture of nature’s power.

Next, I explored La Gomera, a less-visited island that boasts pristine forests and ancient traditions. Hiking through Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was like stepping back in time. The laurel forest, dense with fog and echoing with birdsong, was mesmerizing. I learned about the whistling language, Silbo Gomero, used by locals to communicate across the deep valleys.

Lanzarote offered a contrast with its stark, moon-like landscapes and innovative art installations by César Manrique, which highlight the island’s natural beauty. I visited the Timanfaya National Park, where I could feel the heat from the volcanic soil underfoot, and enjoyed a meal cooked over geothermal heat at El Diablo restaurant—a unique blend of nature and culture.

The beaches of Fuerteventura were next, where endless stretches of white sand and turquoise waters invited relaxation. I spent days windsurfing and evenings enjoying the laid-back beach bars. The island’s marine life is vibrant, and snorkeling here was like entering a colorful new world.

My journey through the Canary Islands was a vivid diary of contrasting landscapes, cultural richness, and natural wonders. It was a reminder of the diversity that makes this archipelago a treasure.
